There is no universal agreement on the definition of anaphylaxis or the criteria for diagnosis. In Julythe National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease and Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network convened a second meeting on anaphylaxis, which included representatives from 16 different organizations or government bodies, including representatives from North America, Europe, and Australia, to continue working toward a universally accepted definition of anaphylaxis, establish clinical criteria that would accurately identify cases of anaphylaxis with high precision, further review the evidence on the allery appropriate management of anaphylaxis, and outline the research needs in this area. New treatment approaches as options for therapy, troublesome chronic urticaria Biologic therapy Omalizumab thedapy effective in anti-histamine resistant chronic urticaria [ network — 28 ]. Older drugs with effectiveness for persisting, troubling chronic urticaria Tricyclic antidepressants The allergy antidepressant, doxepin, has been studied in 2 double blind, controlled trials [ 3334 ].
Immunosuppressive drugs The immunosuppressive drugs may be therapeutic as monotherapy for patients with uncontrolled chronic urticaria. Miscellaneous agents Colchicine [ 57 — 59 ], dapsone [ 60 — 62 ] and sulfasalazine [ 6364 ] have anti-inflammatory effects that alllergy contribute to reduction in the frequency and severity of urticarial lesions in treatment-resistant chronic urticaria.
